National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on January 24. The main objective of observing this day is to promote the importance of female education, health and nutrition. The government started celebrating this day as a reminder to invest in the well-being of girls and encourage them to live a successful and fulfilling life.

National Girl Child Day also coincides with the launch date of the “Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao” scheme launched in 2015. The anniversary also underscores the commitment to giving welfare and rights to girls.
