Separated From Your Childhood Best Friend? Technology Can Blur Borders

When we are talking about advertisements and marketing assets, how can we leave behind the tech giant Google?

Google India comes up with stories of reunions, which have always been closer to people’s hearts, especially for those who got separated from their loved ones owing to the partition. The focus of the ad was to bring the power of Google search alive by touching the softest corners of the heart and memory.

Why a Reunion Story?

Who doesn’t love a reunion story? Be it long-lost lovers or long-lost friends, reunions are always the “audience favourite”. When it comes to touching people’s hearts, reunion stories work! It hits just the right nerves, enough to trigger goosebumps and etch a mark in the memory.

Being a tech giant, Google took the opportunity and made the best use of emotion to touch people’s hearts and speak about their goals through the ad.

The Screenplay

The film opens with a narration by an elderly, Baldev, reminiscing about his childhood. He shows his granddaughter Suman a crinkled black and white photograph of his childhood friend Yusuf and himself. He narrates to his granddaughter how they used to fly kites together, and steal Jhajariyas, (a delicacy made of corn, milk, ghee and sugar garnished with nuts and raisins, quite similar to jalebi) from Yusuf’s father’s shop. He also mentions spending the day in the park with an ancient gate in Lahore. While narrating, Baldeb bursts into tears which leads to the 2nd scene.

In the 2nd scene, Suman is seen using the information shared to search for Yusuf or at least the sweet shop. She looks for Yusuf on Google and manages to track him down by searching for the sweet sop in front of Lahore’s Mochi Gate.

The contact details lead her to Yusuf’s grandson and she explains the scenario. Again, using Google, the young man arranges for an Indian Visa for himself and Yusuf and decides to visit India and make the elderly meet. Using Google search, he also checks the weather in India and packs an umbrella to protect themselves from the rain.

The scene closes with Yusuf and Baldev reuniting and playing in the rain just like the old times.

Quite Emotional Huh?

Go watch it for yourself and drop a tear.
